John Butterfield, the principal of JBA, has been making information more accessible for over 20 years. The audience impacted by his information design exceeds two million people.

John began his audience-focused design methodology in the field of game design, publishing over 30 board games, and video and computer games. His expertise as author, artist, logic architect, game theorist and user analyst has kept him at the forefront of game design throughout his career.

For fifteen years, John was the Design Director for Edwin Schlossberg Inc., an innovator in the design of museums, exhibitions, interactive systems and site-base entertainment. There, he directed a multi-disciplinary design staff in the conceptualization and development of numerous award-winning interactive projects. John also directed design for Sparks Exhibits and Environments, a world-leader in the design and manufacture of custom trade show exhibits.

More recently, John served as Vice President of Product Design for GivingCapital, a provider of philanthropic solutions to financial service companies and nonprofit organizations.

John is a graduate of Parsons School of Design.

Three exhibits with activities designed by JBA are currently on tour. Look for them to come to a Children's museum or science center near you. All three projects were done in consultation with Argyle Design, for the Children's Museum of Houston.

My Home Planet Earth, an exhibit on environmental health opened at the Children's Museum of Houston in 2002. The exhibit was recently at the Seattle Children's Museum, as reported in this web article.

The Magic School Bus Kicks Up a Storm brought interactive weather to the Houston Children's Museum in 2003, and has been on tour since, as reported in this web article from the Chicago Children's Museum.

Dragon and Fairies: Exploring Vietnam through Folktales allows children to discover the heritage and culture of Vietnam through exploration of its rich folktale traditions. The exhibit opened in Houston in 2004 and is now touring to positive reviews as reported in this web article.

For another JBA client, the Children's Museum of Manhattan, we provided operational analysis and interactive concepts for Art Inside Out, a discovery environment on the creative process. This article from the NY Post summarizes the exhibit.
